RYA Short Range Certificate
A course on operating VHF radios, including training in DSC and GMDSS—upon successful completion, you will be able to operate all modern marine radios. The license is valid for life; renewal is optional, not mandatory.
RYA Sea survival / World Sailing Offshore Personal Survival
We all hope to never face an emergency at sea. However, if a crisis arises despite all precautions, knowing how to respond can significantly reduce its impact. The primary goal of the survival course is to explain and practice life-saving procedures that can make the difference between survival and disaster.

FAQ
In what order should I take the courses?
The additional courses have no fixed order and do not depend on each other. Theory makes sense before a practical course, SRC any time (you need it for the Yachtmaster exam), Sea Survival and first aid any time – they are required for the professional Commercial Endorsement.
Why take a course that is not compulsory?
Because they decide situations you cannot improvise your way through. Charter companies require the SRC to rent a yacht, Sea Survival is a condition for entering offshore races, and without a first aid certificate you will not get a Commercial Endorsement.
Which courses end with an exam?
The Short Range Certificate ends with an in-person exam (76 GBP) and World Sailing Offshore Personal Survival with a written test. RYA Sea Survival, first aid and the theory courses have no exam.
What does it cost and what can I do online?
You can do RYA theory and the SRC course online from home. Sea Survival, World Sailing and first aid are in person, because you practise in a pool and on manikins. The price of each course is shown with its dates.
