NYS Sailing School Kastela, the RYA certified training centre for practical Sail Cruising courses, is based in Croatia in marina Kastela near the city of Split. The marina is just a short drive from the Split international airport and from the highway. The surrounding islands of Central Dalmatia offer countless opportunities for exploring, learning and enjoying the beautiful sceneries from aboard one of our training yachts – modern performance cruisers Beneteau First 35.
All our practical courses are run by highly qualified and experienced RYA instructors, with maximum 5 students per course. For Competent Crew, Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper courses we offer 6 days tuition instead the more usual 5 days recommended by the RYA. This gives you significantly more time to learn, practise and enjoy sailing. You will be living on board for the whole course, visiting new harbours, marinas and anchorages every day. Your patient instructor will guide you through the syllabus, giving you plenty of oppotunities to try everything yourself and help you to develop your confidence and competence.
Whilst the RYA training programme can be joined at any level from competent crew through day skipper to coastal skipper or yachtmaster, there's not enough time to teach RYA navigation theory on practical courses and we prefer to concentrate on using the yacht for as much practical training as possible. Students are thus expecteted to have learned some theory before joining the practical course, either by studying on their own or even better on one of the RYA shorebased theory courses of appropriate level.

Winter courses on Canaries
In NYS we believe that there’s no such a thing as winter in sailing and you can always find a good place to enjoy your hobby any time throught the year. So we started a cooperation with another RYA Training Center - Canary sail, which will be running all the RYA scheme on this beautiful archipelago for you.
RYA Sailing Accreditation Rated as the World’s Best
The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) sailing qualifications have been voted the premiere sailing accreditation for excellence and global reputation following a recent survey targeting 200 professional yacht and motorboat charter companies. The professional charter companies that were surveyed own and manage in excess of 6,000 charter boats across the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Asia.
